Biographical sketch

Martina Jordaan is the Head: Community engagement research and postgraduate studies at the Mamelodi campus, University of Pretoria. I was previously a senior lecturer at the University, responsible for the compulsory module, Community-based Project Module(code: JCP), for all undergraduate students of the Faculty of Engineering, the Built Environment and Information Technology. The module received institutional, national and international recognition. It received the Education Innovation Awards (2006), was a finalist for the MacJannet Prize (2010) and won the Marketing Advancement & Communication in Education (MACE) Excellence Award in the Category: Integrated campaigns/projects and Subcategory: Social responsibility Citizenship Development in 2014. 

Martina received the University of Pretoria’s Community Engagement Award in 2015, the awards for Transformative Leadership in Africa (UETLA) (Talloires Network) in 2016 and a special award for teaching in learning from the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and IT in 2019. She was head of the Education Museum in Pretoria and, after that, responsible for developing pre-schools in the informal settlements next to Pretoria and skills development of staff of various schools in Pretoria in the Gauteng Department of Education. She was trained as an educator and appointed in her career as a teacher, researcher, community developer, facilitator and lecturer. She is skilled in community service curriculum development and lecturing and facilitating a macro community course. She specialises in community engagement and community involvement to do transdisciplinary research.
